Confirmed: Ward and Henderson depart as Nottingham Forest announce retained list

The departure of Jamie Ward and Stephen Henderson has been confirmed, as Nottingham Forest released their retained list today.

The striker and the goalkeeper are both out of contract and will not be offered fresh terms.

The decision comes as no surprise, with both players having been well down the pecking order in the first team squad.

Ward made 38 starts and 24 sub appearances for the Reds, scoring five goals, after joining as a free agent, following the end of his contract with rivals Derby in the summer of 2015.

With Forest operating under a transfer embargo at the time, Ward was offered a long-term contract to lure him to the City Ground.

But the 33-year-old has been out of the first team picture for some time at Forest and has had loan spells at Burton, Cardiff and Charlton.

Keeper Henderson's career at the City Ground was not helped by injury, which saw him suffer a bad Achillies problem in February 2017, at Norwich.

He made 15 starts and one sub appearance for the Reds following his capture from Charlton in the summer of 2016 and has subsequently been on loan at Portsmouth and Wycombe.

A number of under-23 players have also been released, including Adam Crookes (Port Vale) and Alex Iacovitti (Oldham), who have been out on loan in the Football League recently, as well as Liam Bossin, Joe Coveney, Josef Hefele and Rudolfs Soloha.

Leo Bonatini, Sam Byram, Jack Colback, Diogo Goncalves, Saidy Janko, Pele, Molla Wague will all return to their parent clubs, following the end of their loan spells.
