Confirmed: Nottingham Forest goalkeeper completes January transfer

Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Costel Pantilimon has completed a move to AC Omonia.

The 32-year-old has not been part of the first-team set-up at the City Ground this season, under head coach Sabri Lamouchi - and he will now spend the rest of the campaign on loan at the Cypriot club.

Pantilimon made the move to the City Ground, initially on loan, from Deportivo in January 2018, before making the move permanent that July when he penned a three-year deal.

He was first-choice between the posts for the Reds last term, making 44 appearances in the Garibaldi.

However, Forest strengthened their goalkeeping ranks during the summer, with Manchester City loanee Arijanet Muric and Brice Samba added to the squad.

The former started off as No.1 before losing his place to Samba, who has gone on to establish himself as something of a fans’ favourite.

Muric has not been part of the matchday squad of late, with head coach Sabri Lamouchi having said he is likely to return to his parent club this month.

Jordan Smith has instead been the back-up shot-stopper on the bench.

Announcing Pantilimon’s arrival, Omonia said: “We have reached an agreement with Nottingham Forest to acquire 32-year-old Romanian goalkeeper Costel Pantilimon in the form of a loan until the end of the current season.”
