Confirmed: Nottingham Forest announce signing of Premier League attacker

Nottingham Forest have confirmed the signing of attacker Luke Freeman from Sheffield United.

The winger/midfielder joins the Reds on a season-long loan, becoming their fifth addition of the summer - with the club holding the option to make his transfer permanent.

Freeman follows midfielder Fouad Bachirou, who penned a two-year deal on Wednesday, to make it two new arrivals in the space of a few days for Sabri Lamouchi's side.

Jack Colback, Tyler Blackett and Lyle Taylor had already put pen to paper at the City Ground ahead of the new Championship campaign.

Freeman started out at Charlton Athletic and Gillingham as a youngster, before going on to join the academy at Premier League giants Arsenal.

Although he didn’t make a first-team breakthrough with the Gunners, he had loan spells at Yeovil Town and Stevenage, before joining the latter on a permanent basis in 2012.

Moves to Bristol City and QPR followed, with the 28-year-old leaving Rangers for the Blades last summer.

Regular game time in the top-flight proved tough to come by, however, with Freeman making 16 appearances in total last term.

Eleven of those came in the Premier League - just three of which were in the starting XI.

Forest had been interested in signing him in January, but have now secured his services for 2020/21, with Freeman adding creativity and attacking threat to the ranks.

He joins up with his teammates ahead of a practice match against West Bromwich Albion at St George's Park on Saturday - and with little more than a week before the competitive action begins.

Lamouchi's men kick off the season away to Barnsley in the first round of the Carabao Cup on September 5.

And their first Championship match takes place a week later, when they travel to QPR.
