Jake Clifford is a Newcastle Knight.
The Knights announced this morning that the North Queensland Cowboys halback would join the club for the rest of the season, as reported in Toohey's News in the Newcastle Herald today.
Clifford had signed with the Knights for the next two seasons but was granted a release from the Cowboys after their win over the Warriors on Friday night.
He will be available for next Sunday's clash with Parramatta.
"Having farewelled his Cowboys team mates on excellent terms following their dramatic win over the Warriors, Clifford will link with his new side on Monday morning," the Knights statement said.
"The 23-year-old will be available for selection in Adam O'Brien's side for next Sunday's Old Boys Day clash with Parramatta."
Clifford's move came as the Cowboys confirmed the signing of Brisbane half Tom Dearden.
His arrival is a timely boost for the Knights, with Mitchell Pearce out injured and Blake Green retiring earlier this week.
"We would like to sincerely thank Jake for his contribution to our club, not just at NRL level but throughout the grades," Cowboys head of football Michael Luck said.
"We wish him nothing but the best in the next stage of his football career."
