Confirmed dates announced for Chelsea's Champions League semi final with Real Madrid

The dates for Chelsea’s Champions League semi final against Real Madrid have been confirmed after the Spanish side secured their spot in the final four on Wednesday night.

Champions League football will be returning to Stamford Bridge on May 5 when the Blues will host Real for the second leg of the contest, having played both of their quarter final matches against Porto in Seville, Spain.

The first leg of the semi final will be played at the Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano, at Real Madrid’s training ground, on April 27 with an 8pm GMT kick off on Tuesday night.

The return leg in west London will kick off at the same time eight days later at Stamford Bridge.

Should the Blues make it past Real, they will take on the winner of the other semi final tie, PSG against Manchester City, on May 29 at the Ataturk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul.

It will be the first time that the two sides have played each other in a European competition since 1998, when they met in the Super Cup in Monaco.

The Blues emerged victorious that night, winning 1-0 courtesy of a late Gus Poyet goal.

Tuchel will be appearing in his second successive semi final when the Blues take on Real in a couple of week’s time and admitted it was a “big achievement” for the team, who have seen off Atletico Madrid and Porto in the knockout rounds to reach the last four.

“You see when Chelsea was last in the semi final. We are not used to being there. Once you are there, you play for the final. This is clear,” he said on Tuesday.

“We take every minute to learn and grow. You cannot improve without these experiences so we are doing it now during the process, while we are playing it.

“We're in the competition and in the semi-final it is anyone's competition. In the semi final, you need players fit, momentum, luck in the games.

“When you look at the scoresheet last week, you saw two players who scored their first goals in the competition. When you look at Kylian Mbappe, Neymar, Benzema or Salah score, it is their 50th or 100th goal or something. We arrived with a very young team.

“We want a young team to turn it around. What a young team can do is run, fight and hang in there. It is an adventure for them. It is a big step to be here.”
