Confirmed coronavirus case in reception class at Leeds primary school

A primary school near Leeds has been forced to suddenly send some children home after there was a confirmed case of coronavirus in its reception class.

Westerton Primary Academy, in Tingley, sent a message to parents on Monday morning to confirm that there had been a positive test for someone at the school.

It is not yet known at this stage whether the affected person is a pupil or a member of staff.

All children in foundation stage classes and nursery have been sent home immediately to allow those parts of the school to undergo a deep clean - although the rest of the school has stayed open.

A message on the school's answer phone machine says: "We have a confirmed case of COVID-19 in reception and as a result, foundation stage and nursery will be closed for a deep clean.

"The rest of the school will remain open as normal."

Foundation stage and nursery classes are expected to remain closed until at least Thursday.
