Confirmed coronavirus case at major Bristol primary school

There has been a confirmed case of Covid-19 at a large Bristol primary school.

Ashton Gate Primary School staff say a small number of children who have been in close contact with the individual have been told to self isolate for ten days.

In a letter sent to parents on Friday, January 23 headteacher Gareth Jones reassures them that so far it is just a single case.

But he says if any children develop symptoms they an other household members should remain at home for ten days from when the symptoms.

The school is still open for vulnerable pupils and children of critical workers not affected by the coronavirus case.

Mr Jones tells parents: "We know that you may find this concerning but we are continuing to monitor the situation and are working closely with Public Health England.

"This letter is to inform you of the current situation and provide advice on how to support your child.

"Please be reassured that for most people, coronavirus (COVID-19) will be a mild illness.

"The small number of children who have been in close contact with the individual who has tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19) have received a letter informing them that their child must stay at home for 10 days.

"The school remains open to all other pupils who have been provided a space in line with the critical worker guidance."

Pupils effected have been informed to self-isolate until January 31.
