Confirmed Chelsea team vs West Ham: Kante returns, Werner and Thiago Silva start

Thomas Tuchel has rung the changes to his starting lineup as Chelsea take on West Ham in a pivotal London derby.

Edouard Mendy, N'Golo Kante, Timo Werner, Thiago Silva, Cesar Azpiliceuta and Ben Chilwell are all recalled. Hakim Ziyech, Kurt Zouma, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Marcos Alonso, Reece James and Kai Havertz make way.

As Tuchel confirmed at his pre-match press conference on Friday, Mendy returns in goal at the expense of Kepa, who kept a fifth clean sheet since Tuchel arrived during the 0-0 draw with Brighton on Tuesday.

Azpilicueta returns and appears to be lining up at right wing back alongside Antonio Rudiger, Thiago Silva, Andreas Christensen and Ben Chilwell.

Azpilicueta is back in the starting lineup having been rested for the midweek game against the Seagulls.

In midfield, Kante returns having also been rested in midweek. Mason Mount is pushed further forward into a more familiar role having played deeper on Tuesday night while Jorginho starts once again alongside Kante in the heart of the midfield.

Timo Werner appears to be leading the line with Havertz on the bench as Christian Pulisic starts.

For West Ham, they are without the suspended Craig Dawson for the game this evening having been sent off during the 3-2 defeat to Newcastle United last time out. He is replaced in the lineup by Fabian Balbuena. Ryan Fredericks also comes in for the Hammers.

Left back Aaron Cresswell isn’t fit but in-form Jesse Lingard is and starts for the hosts.

Both sides are locked together on 55 points heading into the game in fourth and fifth respectively, Chelsea above the Hammers by virtue of goal difference only.

Both are chasing a Champions League spot and are looking to claw back Leicester in third, who stretched their advantage to four points by beating West Brom on Thursday night.

Liverpool slipped up earlier this afternoon by conceding a 94th minute equaliser to Newcastle in a 1-1 draw, meaning they remain in sixth place behind the Hammers and the Blues.

Chelsea: Mendy; Christensen, Silva, Rudiger; Azpilicueta, Kante, Jorginho, Chilwell, Mount, Werner, Pulisic
