Confirmed Chelsea team vs Man Utd: Timo Werner starts, Cristiano Ronaldo dropped

Marcos Alonso starts for Chelsea against Manchester United as Thomas Tuchel has made three changes to the side that beat Juventus in midweek.

Tuchel has had to shuffle his pack a bit after two injuries to two key players were sustained in the midweek thrashing of Juventus as Ben Chilwell and N'Golo Kante are both ruled out.

The Spanish veteran replaces the injured Chilwell in the starting eleven with the England international ruled out with a knee injury.

The same fate befell Kante and he too misses out in SW6, with Ruben Loftus-Cheek coming into the side to replace the Frenchman. Tuchel confirmed on Friday that Kante is likely to only be out for days, while Chilwell could be out of action for at least six weeks with a partial ACL tear.

Four of the back five who started in midweek against Juventus start again as Reece James, Trevoh Chalobah, Thiago Silva and Antonio Rudiger all start.

Jorginho captains the Blues side once again and lines up alongside Loftus-Cheek in the middle of the park.

Up front, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Hakim Ziyech and the recalled Timo Werner make up the front three. There is no place in the starting eleven for Romelu Lukaku after his injury and will have to come off the bench if he wants to play against his former employers.

It is Werner's first start since he suffered a hamstring injury in the Champions League victory over Malmo on November 2. He replaces Christian Pulisic from the midweek side.

As always, Edouard Mendy starts in goal for Chelsea as they look to further cement their [lace at the top of the Premier League standings.

Chelsea team: Mendy; James, Chalobah, Silva, Rudiger, Alonso; Jorginho (c), Loftus-Cheek; Ziyech, Hudson-Odoi, Werner.
