Confirmed Chelsea team vs Leeds: Romelu Lukaku benched, Kai Havertz starts, Jorginho returns

It was expected that Thomas Tuchel would once again make changes to his Chelsea side for the visit of Leeds United to Stamford Bridge and that is exactly what has happened.

Tuchel has made seven changes from the side that drew 3-3 with Zenit St Petersburg in midweek in the Champions League which saw a heavily rotated side.

In come Jorginho, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Edouard Mendy, Antonio Rudiger, Marcos Alonso and Thiago Silva, all who were either rested in midweek or missed out through injury.

Those making way from the Zenit game are Saul Niguez, Ross Barkley, Malang Sarr, Cesar Azpilicueta and Kepa.

Reece James reverts back to his right wing-back role, as promised by Tuchel on Friday at his pre-match press conference, having played in midfield against Zenit.

Tuchel also said on Friday that Mendy would return in goal in place of Kepa and the head coach has kept his word on that one.

The front three this afternoon is almost the same as the one that played in Russia. Timo Werner scored twice in midweek and keeps his place alongside Mason Mount, who also started in Russia.

Romelu Lukaku, who scored his first goal since coming back from injury against Zenit, doesn't start though as he is named among the substitutes. Kai Havertz returns to the starting eleven in his place.

Jorginho is not 100 per cent fit but is preferred in midfield to Saul while Ruben Loftus-Cheek starts alongside having missed Wednesday's draw as a precaution with an injury sustained in the warm up.

Rudiger and Silva are back at the heart of the Chelsea defence having been given Wednesday night off and they are partnered by Cesar Azpilicueta in the back three.

Chelsea team: Mendy; Azpilicueta, Silva, Rudiger; James, Alonso, Jorginho, Loftus-Cheek; Mount, Werner, Havertz.
