Confirmed Chelsea team vs Fulham: Rudiger makes shock start as Hudson-Odoi is benched

Frank Lampard has included several surprise names in his Chelsea side to face Fulham this evening, with Antonio Rudiger, Jorginho and Olivier Giroud all in the starting XI.

Having lost four of their last six top-flight fixtures, the clash at Craven Cottage is a must-win for the Blues, who started the day ninth in the table.

Lampard has, either side of the victory over Morecambe, had two weeks to work with his side but has named a shock side for the contest.

Edouard Mendy has returned in goal. The summer signing sat out last weekend's FA Cup win with Kepa Arriazbalga given a rare outing.

Cesar Azpilicueta has retained his place at right-back despite the return of Reece James from injury. The academy graduate is on the bench.

Kurt Zouma is also among the substitutes with Antonio Rudiger taking his place on the right side of central defence.

Thiago Silva is the German's centre-back partner. Ben Chilwell is back in at left-back in place of Emerson.

Lampard's midfield has surprised many. Jorginho takes up the number six role in place of the suspended N'Golo Kante. Mateo Kovacic has taken Kai Havertz's spot but Mason Mount starts.

Hakim Ziyech lines up on the right of the front three. On the opposite flank is Christian Pulisic, who comes in for Callum Hudson-Odoi.

Timo Werner, fresh off breaking his goalscoring duck last weekend, drops to the bench. Olivier Giroud gets a start with Tammy Abraham a substitute.

Chesea: Mendy; Azpilicueta, Rudiger, Silva, Chilwell; Jorginho, Kovacic, Mount; Ziyech, Giroud, Pulisic.

Chelsea substitutes: Kepa, James, Zouma, Emerson, Gilmour, Havertz, Hudson-Odoi, Werner, Abraham
