Confirmed Chelsea team vs Atletico Madrid: Havertz, Kante and Ziyech start, Christensen ruled out

Chelsea are without Andreas Christensen for Wednesday evening’s second leg in the Champions League against Atletico Madrid.

The Danish defender has been a star player for Thomas Tuchel since he arrived at the club and with Christensen having stepped in for the injured Thiago Silva during the 1-0 win at Spurs two months ago.

He is replaced by Kurt Zouma in the starting lineup at Stamford Bridge that shows five changes from the team that drew with Leeds United on Saturday.

In goal, as expected, is Edouard Mendy.

In front of him is the usual five man defence which this evening consists of Reece James, Cesar Azpiliceuta, Zouma, Antonio Rudiger and Marcos Alonso, the latter replacing Ben Chilwell.

N’Golo Kante starts in defensive midfield alongside Mateo Kovacic in the middle of the park.

Hakim Ziyech gets the nod in what looks to be a number ten role with Kai Havertz in the false nine and Timo Werner as the second striker.

The Blues are without suspended duo Mason Mount and Jorginho this evening after picking up a yellow card in the first leg victory out in Romania.

Thiago Silva and Tammy Abraham are both ruled out through injury, both missed the first leg victory in Bucharest as well.

Tuchel has named only nine substitutes for the game from a possible 12 he could have listed with two goalkeepers on the bench in Kepa and Willy Caballero.

Chelsea: Mendy; James, Azpilicueta, Rudiger, Zouma, Alonso; Kante, Kovacic; Ziyech, Werner, Havertz.
