Confirmed Chelsea team news vs Liverpool: Sarri goes for a false nine with Hazard up front

Maurizio Sarri has opted for a false nine as Chelsea take on Liverpool this afternoon, but starts with Callum Hudson-Odoi at Anfield.

There's no place for either Olivier Giroud or Gonzalo Higuain in the side as the Italian goes with Eden Hazard as the man up top and flanked by the 18-year-old and Willian.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek is back in the heart of the Chelsea midfield this afternoon and joins Jorginho and N'Golo Kante in what is starting to look like Sarri's preferred midfield trio, and it is a move that is sure to delight the Chelsea fans.

Jurgen Klopp makes huge Maurizio Sarri claim ahead of Liverpool vs Chelsea

Marcos Alonso is dropped despite his goal on Thursday in the Europa League with Emerson coming back into the left back slot, while David Luiz is recalled to the back four to join Antonio Rudiger and Cesar Azpilicueta.

It's a similar sort of line up that Sarri went for when Chelsea faced Manchester City in the Carabao Cup and despite not having any shots on target the Blues managed to stifle the City attack, something they will hope to do with Liverpool this afternoon.

Giroud and Higuain are both on the bench should Sarri need them, and they are joined by Ross Barkley, Mateo Kovacic, Andeas Christensen, Pedro and Willy Caballero.

Chelsea: Kepa, Azpilicueta, Rudiger, David Luiz, Emerson, Kante, Jorginho, Loftus-Cheek, Hudson-Odoi, Willian, Hazard

Subs: Cabllero, Higuain, Barkley, Kovacic, Christensen, Pedro, Giroud
