Confirmed Chelsea line-up vs Brighton: Christensen and Barkley start as Kante misses out

The Chelsea team to face Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League this afternoon has been confirmed.

Head coach Frank Lampard has rung the changes to the side which started the 7-1 thumping of Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night as he goes in search of a first league win at Stamford Bridge.

As expected, Kepa Arrizabalaga is recalled in between the sticks after Willy Caballero deputised in midweek and the Spaniard is still awaiting his first clean sheet of the season.

With Emerson Palmieri still out injured, one issue for Lampard in terms of his team selection was the formation.

And he's gone with a 4-2-3-1 system and that means Marcos Alonso will operate at left-back with the centre-back partnership consisting of Fikayo Tomori and Andreas Christensen.

In midfield there is a recall for Jorginho as he partners Ross Barkley in central midfield, but there is no place in the squad for N'Golo Kante.

Tammy Abraham is back up top and will be supported in attack by Willian and Mason Mount.

Callum Hudson-Odoi and Reece James both made their return to first-team action against Grimsby and are both named on a strong substitutes bench which also includes Christian Pulisic and Michy Batshuayi.

Chelsea line-up: Kepa; Azpilicueta, Christensen, Tomori, Alonso; Jorginho, Barkley; Willian, Pedro, Mount; Abraham

What Lampard has said

"Of course. Every week is important and the fact that we haven’t won at home in the league is something that we want to correct," Lampard admitted during his pre-match press conference on Friday afternoon.

"If we are going to be where we want to be then we are going to need home wins. I thought we were very unlucky last week against Liverpool. But that doesn't help the point situation.

"We need a similar performance to against Liverpool, because I thought it was very good. In the first half I thought we matched them in play, and the second half we were very good with our urgency and how we moved the ball.

"If we get that level and performance then I expect the home wins to come very soon."
