Confirmed cases of coronvavirus in Bristol rise again - with 23 more confirmed

Bristol now has 234 confirmed cases of coronavirus following 23 more people being infected with the deadly disease in just one day.

The government has said only the most severe cases and some NHS workers are being tested so the real figure for our city is likely to be in the thousands.

South Gloucestershire also witnessed a steep rise with 16 more cases, bringing the district's total to 155.

As of 9am on April 8, North Somerset had 91 cases, up from 82.

The latest local figures have been announced following the deadliest day yet, with 938 UK deaths confirmed today (Wednesday). This brings the UK's total to 7,172.

There are now 55,242 confirmed Covid-19 cases across our nation, a rise of 3,634 in one day.

It was also announced tonight that Prime Minster Boris Johnson's condition has improved and he's now sitting up in his hospital bed.

And an unnamed minister told the Times that kids could return to school following the Easter Holidays to help kick-start the economy.

While in Bristol, scientists have developed a potential vaccine for COVID-19 and are ready to start testing, with hopes that it could be distributed 'worldwide'.
