Confirmed Arsenal XI vs Standard Liege: Ljungberg deploys back three with Saka at wing-back

Freddie Ljungberg has named a three-man defence for the first time in his brief Arsenal managerial tenure with Konstantinos Mavropanos making his season debut.

Bukayo Saka has been tasked with filling in at left wing-back with Arsenal short on numbers in the position. Kieran Tierney is sidelined for up to three months with a shoulder injury and Sead Kolasinac has not travelled.

Meanwhile Emile Smith Rowe and Reiss Nelson will start on the flanks supporting Alexandre Lacazette. Ljungberg's selection has offered some strong suggestions as to which players will feature against Manchester City on Sunday with Calum Chambers having travelled but been confined to the bench.

Senior players including Mesut Ozil have not travelled.

Ljungberg is expecting a tough test from Standard Liege, who are currently third in the Belgian league: "Of course it's a very important game for us. We know what's at stake. We think they will probably come at us because they need to win the game.

"Of course in the Premier League in December we play a lot of games.

"We have a lot of respect for this game. We definitely don't take it lightly. We want to win and get a result and play in Europe for the rest of the season."

Arsenal XI: Martinez; Luiz, Mavropanos, Sokratis; Maitland-Niles, Willock, Guendouzi, Saka; Smith Rowe, Lacazette, Nelson
