Confirmed Arsenal XI vs Southampton: Mesut Ozil starts as Unai Emery continues with back three

Mesut Ozil has retained his place in an Arsenal XI bearing only two changes from the side that lost away to Leicester in the Gunners' last match.

Unai Emery has continued with the three-man defence he used in the draw with Vitoria and defeat to Leicester before the international break ,meaning Nicolas Pepe is confined to the bench as Sokratis Papastathopoulos and Kieran Tierney replace Rob Holding and Sead Kolasinac, both of whom are carrying injuries that rule them out of contention.

Granit Xhaka has also been left out of the matchday squad whilst Hector Bellerin and Kieran Tierney start a Premier League game together for the first time.

Southampton find themselves second from bottom of the Premier League with the league's worst goal difference but Emery is expecting a tough test. "Every team is a very difficult team in the Premier League," he said.

"I think they also need the points because they are now not in the best moment for them. But they are playing, I think, better away than in the matches at home. They are very competitive also, away.

Unai Emery's pre-Southampton press conference

"They lost 2-1 at the last moment against Manchester City, they won in Sheffield and also, they lost in the last moment against Tottenham."

Arsenal XI: Leno; Chambers, Luiz, Sokratis; Bellerin, Guendouzi, Torreira, Tierney; Ozil; Lacazette, Aubameyang
