Confirmed Arsenal XI vs Sheffield United: Martinelli replaces Aubameyang as Nketiah makes squad

Mikel Arteta has decided to replace Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang with Gabriel Martinelli on the left wing as Alexandre Lacazette takes the captain's armband.

Eddie Nketiah, who was recalled from Leeds earlier this month is also in the squad but takes a place on the bench. He scored in his last Premier League appearance which came against Burnley at Turf Moor.

Staying with his trusted 4-2-3-1 formation, Arteta is fielding Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Shkodran Mustafi, David Luiz and Bukayo Saka ahead of Bernd Leno in goal.

Arteta was forced to play Saka at left-back in his first two games in charge so the position won't be completely foreign to the 18-year-old but it will be a tough ask. Kolasinac had returned in great form so Saka will need to ensure he does the basics right to keep on top of the Blades.

Despite coming off at half time against Crystal Palace, Lucas Torreira starts. He had discomfort with a muscle injury near his hip but has recovered to make the starting XI.

Granit Xhaka will be stationed next to Torreira with Ozil in the side from the No.10. position. Nicolas Pepe keeps his place on the right wing, Alexandre Lacazette stays up top and Martinelli takes the left wing as Reiss Nelson has pulled his hamstring.

Coming in because of Sokratis' illness, this could be the chance Mustafi has been waiting for to break into the starting XI permanently. Arteta addressed rumours about the German's future earlier this week.

"We haven’t talked about this internally, but I have known him since my time when I was at Everton. I know what he can do. I know the history at this football club, but it is up to him," the Spaniard said when asked about Mustafi's future.

I told everybody from day one: ‘It is up to you guys. You show me how much you want it, you show me you are committed here, you are going to have a chance and it is going to come this week, next week or the following one.'

"They are all going to have the chance to play. After it is up to them to show it."
