Confirmed Arsenal XI vs Manchester City as Martinelli and Runarsson start against strong City side

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has made eight changes from the defeat to Everton at the weekend and handed Gabriel Martinelli his first start of the season against Manchester City.

The Brazilian was expected to be named in the matchday squad after returning from a long-term injury and he starts against a strong Pep Guardiola side which includes Riyad Mahrez, Phil Foden and Gabriel Jesus in attack.

"We have two difficult opponents before in Leicester and Liverpool, we managed to beat them both and now we are playing at home and we are one step closer to Wembley," said Arteta before the game.

"So it is a really nice game to play, as this is the type of game we are looking for through the season."

Arteta has also selected reserve goalkeeper Alex Runarsson while Mohamed Elneny, Dani Ceballos and Joe Willock continue in midfield with the likes of Shkodran Mustafi and Sead Kolasinac making up an experienced defence.

Confirmed Arsenal XI: Runarsson, Mustafi, Gabriel, Kolasinac, Maitland-Niles, Elneny, Ceballos, Cedric, Willock, Lacazette, Martinelli.
