Confirmed Arsenal XI vs Liverpool: Kieran Tierney as Thiago and Gabriel miss out

Kieran Tierney has shaken off a groin injury in time to start for Arsenal in their Premier League clash with Liverpool at Anfield.

And in a further boost to Mikel Arteta's plans Liverpool will be without midfield playmaker Thiago, who has failed to shake off injury in time.

David Luiz takes the place of Gabriel Magalhaes at the heart of Arsenal's defence whilst there is also a start for Mohamed Elneny in midfield.

Willian is preferred to Nicolas Pepe on the right of Arsenal's attacking trident.

Tierney had missed out on wins over West Ham and Leicester City with a tight left groin whilst Sokratis Papastathopoulos and Cedric Soares (both right calf) were nursing mild injuries in the build-up to Arsenal's Merseyside trip.

Pablo Mari (ankle), Shkodran Mustafi (hamstring), Calum Chambers and Gabriel Martinelli (both knee) remain more long-term absentees for Arteta's side.

The Spaniard has emerged victorious in each of his two meetings with Jurgen Klopp so far but warned his side that Liverpool are well set up to exploit any lapses in Arsenal's gameplan.

"Obviously we have to try to find ways how we can hurt them and positionally create problems for them but as well being very realistic and cautious that this is exactly as well what they’re trying to do," Arteta said.

"This is how they break things down, when you feel comfortable with a little bit of space doing those things and the next minute you are punished and you are a goal down. It’s a really important balance and awareness that you have to handle during games against them."

Confirmed Arsenal XI: Leno; Holding, Luiz, Tierney; Bellerin, Elneny, Xhaka, Maitland-Niles; Willian, Lacazette, Aubameyang
