Confident Dallas Goedert believes he’s among the top-4 TE’s in the NFL

Dallas Goedert is one of the top tight ends in the NFL and that’s not based on statistics or analysis, because those words are coming from the horse’s mouth. Goedert is extremely confident and teeters the line between bravado and outright wanting to tell Zach Ertz that the position belongs to him.

The second-year tight end will be a problem for opposing defenses this season and during a sit down with Bob Ford of The Inquirer, he acknowledged that he’d prefer to be the starter, but he understands that Ertz is the No. 1 guy at the position.

“It’s kind of a tough question with this offense,” Goedert said. “Obviously, I’d like to be the number one tight end, but with Zach, that’s not likely. I’d like more targets, but then we’ve acquired DeSean [Jackson] and all that. I’m just excited to keep building on my game, and being on the field more.”

Goedert had 33 receptions last seasons, but it’s hard to prognosticate whether that total will rise with DeSean Jackson returning and the addition of Jordan Howard and Miles Sanders. Still, that hasn’t stopped Goedert from flashing his bravado, telling McLane that there are only two or three tight ends in the NFL better than him when asked how many other teams he’d start for.

“Hmm, that kind of puts me on the spot,” Goedert said. “But I’d say 29.”

“Yeah, I haven’t beat out Zach yet. And I’ll give it to [Kansas City’s] Travis Kelce for being Travis Kelce. And I’ll give it to [San Francisco’s George] Kittle. What he did last year was pretty impressive. I’m not saying I’m not better than him, but he had a pretty good year,” Goedert said.

It’ll be interesting to see how the dynamic between Goedert and Ertz continues to play out as the young gun comes for the single-season catch leader for tight ends in a season.
