SAPPORO -- World-renowned British conductor Daniel Harding is not letting a fractured right ankle get in between him and his baton.
Harding, 43, in Japan for a tour of the Orchestre de Paris, of which he is the music director, suffered the ankle injury after slipping on a frozen path inside a park in Sapporo on Tuesday.
Hours later, however, according to Kajimoto, the company that is managing the tour, Harding arrived onstage in a wheelchair for the concert at Sapporo Concert Hall Kitara in the city on Tuesday evening.
The concert also featured violinist Isabelle Faust.
Seated in a chair, Harding conducted the French orchestra playing Beethoven's Violin Concerto and other works.
Before the performance, the management company informed the audience of the accident.
The tour continues through Dec. 19 with stops in Tottori, Kyoto, Tokyo and Osaka. Apparently, Harding intends to conduct all the concerts.
