Condoms and makeshift shelter found in Mansfield woodland amid reports of 'lewd activities'

Police patrolling woodland in Mansfield following reports of anti-social behaviour found condoms, rubbish and a "makeshift shelter".

Officers were called to Thieves Wood, off the A60, following reports from concerned residents and found four vehicles parked up which quickly dispersed.

On investigation, officers found the makeshift shelter along with the condoms and rubbish at the location.

It follows similar reports and the deployment of a police helicopter last month after officers responded to "suspicious activity" in the same woodland.

Nottinghamshire Police say they are taking a "zero tolerance approach" in the woods following numerous reports.

Police Sergeant Kate Long said: “This is an area visited by families and used by many people in the local and wider community.

"Nottinghamshire Police will not tolerate people using this area for lewd activities.

"We will be looking to introduce a series of measures in the area to prevent this activity and provide a safe, family friendly area for all."
