Condition update given on men injured in horror accident at Hamilton Park

Two camera operators who plunged from a cherry picker at Hamilton Park Racecourse are expected to make a full recovery.

Robbie Cotgrave and Kit Campbell have been receiving treatment at Wishaw General Hospital after the horror accident yesterday.

It is understood they were setting up beyond the winning post prior to the first scheduled race at 2.15pm, when they both fell and landed on to the roof of a truck.

The condition of both Robbie and Kit is described as "stable" as they continue their recovery.

Yesterday's racecard at Hamilton was initially delayed and then abandoned, following the incident.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman told Lanarkshire Live: “Around 1.50pm on Tuesday, police were called to a report of two men falling from a mobile platform at Hamilton Race Course.

“Emergency services attended and both men were taken to Wishaw General Hospital for treatment where their condition is described as stable.

“The incident has now been referred to the Health and Safety Executive.”

Media company RaceTech, who Robbie and Kit were working for yesterday, confirmed to Lanarkshire Live their colleagues are recovering well.

A spokesperson from the firm said: "We've been told both Robbie and Kit are expected to make a full recovery which is really good news. They are still receiving treatment in hospital."

The company also said in a statement yesterday: "Following a serious incident prior to the first race at Hamilton Park involving a mobile elevated camera platform, two freelance camera operators Robbie Cotgrave and Kit Campbell have been seriously injured and taken to hospital.

“A full investigation is underway into the cause of the incident.

“Our thoughts and concerns are very much with our two colleagues at this time.”
