Condition of Dunblane playpark savaged by resident as council comes under fire

Dunblane residents have described the condition of a town playpark as an “eyesore”.

The Newton playpark for nursery to teenage children near Newton Primary School has been closed since lockdown with fencing erected to prevent access.

At one point it had comprised a basketball net, climbing frame, toddlers’ slide, activity area and swing.

But metal skeletons of that equipment now remain.

Ochiltree resident Frank Dunne said: “The playpark was closed around the beginning of the lockdown, before then some of the play items had fallen into disrepair and had been removed.

“What remains now is an eyesore.

“Either the council should restore the play items, or if there is no funding to do this, remove the eyesore and return the area to a grass playing field.”

A Stirling Council spokesman said: “We understand local residents’ concerns about Newton Crescent Park and are working to make improvements to the facility.

“Funding has been allocated to replace play equipment in the park, with one item currently on order and a second item intended to be purchased later this year.

“Work to improve the waterlogging issue in the park is planned for early autumn.

“Temporary fencing has been put up for public safety reasons as extensive repairs and maintenance takes place in another area of the facility.

“We recognise the importance of high-quality green spaces to the health and well-being of families and we will continue to engage with the local community to ensure the park meets the highest standards.”
