Jahangirpuri Violence: Condemn incident, says Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal; others join

NEW DELHI: Politicians across party lines condemned the violence in north Delhi's Jahangirpuri on Saturday in which several people, including cops, were injured.

Chief minister Arvind Kejriwal demanded strict action against the guilty. “The stonepelting on a procession in Jahangirpuri is highly condemnable,” he tweeted. “I appeal to all people to maintain peace.”

LG Anil Baijal has asked the police commissioner to depute forces at all identified sensitive localities in the city and ensure patrolling and vigil. He also said all possible help should be provided to the injured civilians and police personnel.

Leader of the Opposition in Delhi assembly Ramvir Singh Bidhuri alleged another conspiracy to create communal discord on Hanuman Janmotsav after Ram Navami. “Strict action should be taken against the culprits,” Bidhuri said.

Delhi Congress chief Anil Kumar asked people to desist from rumour mongering. “No one should be allowed to spoil the harmony and brotherhood of Delhi. Maintain peace and do not believe rumours,” Kumar appealed.

Delhi BJP chief Adesh Gupta said a party delegation would visit the area on Sunday and he would also meet Union home minister Amit Shah on the issue, while North-East Delhi MP Manoj Tiwari said illegal migrants threatened social harmony in the country. TNN
