Charlie Sheen has paid touching tribute to his Two and a Half Men co-star Conchata Ferrell.

Ferrell, who played Berta in the hit sitcom, died on Tuesday (13 October) after a cardiac arrest, aged 77.

Announcing the news, the show’s distributor, Warner Bros TV, wrote: "We are saddened by the loss of Conchata Ferrell and are grateful for the years she brought us laughs as Berta which will live on forever.”

Following the news, Two and a Half Men stars Sheen and Jon Cryer shared tributes to the actor.

Sheen, who played the lead role of Charlie Harper in the series, called Ferrell "a absolute sweetheart" and "a consummate pro" on Twitter.

Alongside a photo of himself with the actor, he described her death as "shocking and painful".

He referenced her character when adding: "Berta, your housekeeping was a tad suspect – your 'people' keeping was perfect."

Cryer, who played Alan Harper, wrote: “She was a beautiful human.  Berta’s gruff exterior was an invention of the writers. Chatty’s warmth and vulnerability were her real strengths.

"I’m crying for the woman I’ll miss, and the joy she brought so many.”

Ferrell portrayed housekeeper Berta for all of Two and a Half Men’s 12 seasons from 2003 to 2015.  Sheen appeared in 11 of those seasons.

Her performance on the sitcom earned Ferrell two Emmy nominations for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series in 2005 and 2007.
