Concessions at Shabbona Lake: A setback in the sale puts reopening on a delay

Shabbona Lake sunset. | Dale Bowman

The original sale of the concessions at Shabbona Lake has fallen through, which means a delay in the reopening of the concessions there.

Traditionally, Lakeside, the bait shop/boat rental, reopens on April 1. Obviously, that did not happen this year. The camp store and the restaurant have traditionally had a more gradual opening as the season progresses.

On Friday, concessionaire Clint Sands messaged:

Dale, the deal for the sale of the concession business has fallen thru. We are actively looking for another person/business to purchase the concessions. The concessions will remain closed during this process . . .

I am sorry to hear that. The concessionaire has been a vital part of the outdoors experience at Shabbona Lake.

Located just off Route 30 in DeKalb County, Shabbona Lake is the most intensely fished public water in Illinois, per acre. It is noted for its crappie fishing and muskies. Shabbona Lake has produced four Illinois-record muskies over the years.

More details will come when available.
