A man will appear in court after footage of a couple having sex in the middle of Liverpool City Centre went viral on social media.

Joe Firby, 23, was arrested near his home in Gateshead after a police investigation was launched last week.

A Merseyside police statement said: “A man has been charged after a video was circulated on social media of two people having sex last week in Concert Square, Liverpool City Centre.

“Following enquiries, the man was arrested yesterday (Monday 8 August) in the Gateshead area by Northumbria Police, working on our behalf, and taken into custody.

“Joe Firby, 23, from Gateshead, has now been charged with outraging public decency and will appear at Liverpool Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, September 20.”

It came after Kelly Cousins, 35, of Bootle, has been questioned by police and charged following the incident in Concert Square.

She was bailed ahead of a court appearance next month, but banned from entering the city centre.

She is due to appear at Liverpool Magistrates Court on September 20.

Concert Square is described as the “ultimate place for nightlife, bars, clubs and pubs” in the city of Liverpool.
