Concert goer slams 'atrocious' policy that left bins overflowing at Spice Girls gig in Edinburgh

A concert goer has slammed the policy over "umbrellas and bags" at the Spice Girls gig held at Murrayfield Stadium on Saturday.

Vonnie Sandlan shared a post on Twitter with photos showing bins overflowing with items that were prohibited at the concert.

She said: "Absolutely atrocious policy at BT Murrayfield for Spice Girls tonight.

"Pouring with rain but G4S are making attendees throw umbrellas and bags sized bigger than A5 into the bin, or pay £10 to leave each item. Really welcoming."

Adding: "The policy was so strict if your bag was just outside the A5 limit, it was £10 to leave it. We were in the queue nearly an hour for my friend. They must have made a 5-figure sum tonight."

Prior to the gig, organisers urged people not to bring their bags along unless they really had to, while other items, including umbrellas, were strictly prohibited.

Commenting on the tweet, one person said: "They’ve been warned about all this in the lead up, so why they still brought umbrellas is beyond me- it’s the same policy at the rugby."

However there were reports that the bag drop return system was badly managed and there was a lack of consistency in checks that saw some people getting their oversized bags into the gig.

Vonnie said: "I have sympathy with the policy but it was so poorly executed for a system that would have made Murrayfield a comfortable 5-figure sum of money. It didn’t at all put the experience of the attendees first."

Elsewhere, another said there was "chaos" when people went to reclaim their bags, claiming that "staff just threw them all on the ground and people had to scrabble about to find theirs".

Edinburgh Live also reported that a disabled Spice Girls fan said he was 'battered twice and had alcohol thrown over him' at the concert, leaving less than an hour in amidst concerns for his saftey.
