
Blackbird Flute Quartet, a group of young passionate Thai flautists of different musical backgrounds, will give a flute recital at Sala Sudasiri Sobha concert hall, Lat Phrao 41, on Sunday at 4pm.
Presented as part of the "Thai Talents At Sala Sudasiri Sobha" concert series, the evening concert will delight audiences with Anton Reicha's Sinfonico For Four Flutes, Op 112 and Faustin Jeanjean's Ski-Symphonie. Pianist Pana Yontararak will also join the quartet as guest artist in Friedrich Kuhlau's Trio For Two Flutes And Piano, Op 119 and Franz Doppler's Duettino Hongrois, Op 36.
The flute quartet comprises Akkhawin Lertsodsai, Siriphan Mongpho, Thanwa Thungthong and Boonya Nakdee. They are graduates of flute performance from three different institutions -- Chulalongkorn University, Kasetsart University and Mahidol University.
A recipient of a nine-month scholarship from the Austrian Academic Exchange Service (OeAD) to study at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz, Austria, Boonya is studying for a master in music performance at Mahidol University's College of Music. She's also a high school music instructional assistant at the International School Bangkok.
Award-winning Thanwa received a fully-funded Royal Thai Air Force scholarship to study at the Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris. He currently serves as a music teacher at the Department of Education, Royal Thai Air Force Music Division and also a member of Chulalongkorn Flute Ensemble.
Siriphan was a member of Silpakorn University Wind Orchestra, Southeast Asian Youth Orchestra and Wind Ensemble, Chulalongkorn University Symphony Orchestra and Siam Sinfonietta. She is currently a member of Studio 28 Orchestra.
Akkhawin, meanwhile, is a part-time flute instructor at various schools and a member of Nontri Orchestra Wind and Zalymanian Wind Orchestra. He has also performed with Leelavadee String Quartet and Khun Pra Chuay Orchestra.
Tickets cost 700 baht with proceeds going towards the Gift of Life Foundation to help blood-disease patients with financial difficulties and Chulalongkorn Hospital's Bone Marrow Transplant Club.
