Staff working within the kitchens at University Hospital Wishaw have tested positive for Covid-19.
A source contacted the Wishaw Press claiming that three members of staff had been confirmed with the coronavirus, with others also tested and awaiting results.
They also raised concerns with the way the outbreak amongst workers there was being dealt with by NHS Lanarkshire, saying: “There has been an outbreak of coronavirus in the kitchens at University Hospital Wishaw with three confirmed cases and three awaiting results, but still the food is going out, no lockdown or isolation of the kitchen staff that have been in contact with the infected people.”
Kitchen services at the hospital are provided by Serco.
The health board didn’t confirm how many kitchen staff working at the hospital were affected but did say that appropriate steps are in place and they react appropriately in-line with national guidance.
John Paterson, NHS Lanarkshire property and support services division director, said: “The health and safety of our patients and staff is of paramount importance at all times.
“Extra care and attention is applied during the Covid-19 pandemic.
“As per national guidance, any member of Serco’s staff who showed symptoms of Covid-19, or has tested positive, immediately self-isolated at home. This applies to staff who are employed directly by NHS Lanarkshire or Serco.
“NHS Lanarkshire has assurance that all appropriate infection prevention and control measures were, and are, in place within the kitchen, including regular and enhanced cleaning and monitoring.”
