Concerns raised over elderly man with Alzheimer's missing in Edinburgh

Police have launched an urgent appeal to trace an elderly man living with Alzheimer’s disease missing from his home in Edinburgh since Thursday evening.

Officers are becoming increasingly concerned over the welfare of Walter Anderson after he failed to return home late at night.

The 84-year-old was last seen in the Clovenstone Drive area of the city at around 11pm on September 2 and is known to frequent the West of the Capital.

Family members have warned he becomes ‘easily confused’ after launching a desperate bid to trace his whereabouts.

Walter is described as being around 5’10 in height with partially balding brown hair and a medium build.

He usually wears glasses and may have had a navy blue jacket on at the time of his disappearance.

Anyone with information on Walter’s whereabouts has been asked to make contact with police immediately.

Inspector Claire Masterton, of Edinburgh Drylaw Station, said: “Walter has Alzheimers so he may appear confused or lost. We are becoming increasingly concerned for his welfare and are keen to find him as soon as possible.

“I would urge anyone who may have seen Walter to contact us as soon as possible.”

Those with information are asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident 1204 of 3 September.
