The Libyan Elections Commission remained silent over western reports saying that the UN and the western powers have lost hope in the possibility of holding presidential and parliamentary elections in Libya on December 10..
The commission did not make any comment regarding diplomats and sources announcing that the UN and western powers have given up hope that Libya will hold elections in the immediate future.
However, an official in the commission told Asharq Al-Awsat, on condition of anonymity, that the commission is still waiting for an official announcement concerning the elections’ date.
Separately, Libyan National Army (LNA) commander Khalifa Haftar lauded Russia's support to Libyans in their fight against terrorism and for the sake of reinforcing security and stability.
He arrived in the Russian capital at the head of a high-ranking delegation to meet prominent officials, with whom he discussed local and international developments, as well as bilateral ties.
Commenting on the elections, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said at a briefing: "Instead of stabilization, the situation has signs of further deterioration. Intentions to act in an agreed manner, with focus on the organization of presidential and parliamentary elections on December 10, that were declared by top Libyan leaders at the Paris Conference in May this year, are unfortunately poorly supported by concrete measures."
