Concerns over ants see nursery given one star for food hygiene

A Clifton nursery has received one star for its food hygiene amid concerns over ants and allergy information.

Amberley Hall Nursery, in Richmond Dale, was rated 'major improvement necessary' in a Food Standards Agency inspection on May 22.

Owner Kate Ashplant said: "We needed to do some repairs on the ceiling of the kitchen. That has all been done now.

"It's an old building. The ceilings are so high they are hard to get to.

"We had to update our allergy information as well, even though we knew every child's needs.

"The inspector said we had ants but we had someone in to check that and they said there was no problem."

The nursery cares for 30 to 35 children each day.

Its food handling was found to be 'generally satisfactory', its cleanliness and condition was rated 'improvement necessary' and its management of food safety 'major improvement necessary'.
