Concerns growing for Scots climate activist missing for over a month

Police are making enquiries in a bid to trace a climate activist who has not been seen by friends or family for over a month.

Amy Campbell, 38, is known to visit the Glasgow, Edinburgh and Kirkintilloch areas. However, the vocal protester has not been seen since March 15 and was reported missing two weeks ago at Kirkintilloch police station.

The climate activist, who is normally active on social media, has not posted on her accounts since the start of March. She is last believed to have been somewhere in either Edinburgh or Kirkintilloch.

Police say they are continuing efforts to trace her. Climate protest group Just Stop Oil has issued an appeal to its thousands of followers on social media, urging them to get in touch if they have any information on her disappearance.

A group spokesperson told the Record: "She was formally reported missing two weeks ago and friends and family are very concerned. We are worried she is unwell or hurt as it's very unusual not to hear from her for this long. We just want her to get in touch to let us know she's okay."

In a post on Instagram, the group said: "Have you seen our friend Amy? We haven't seen her since March 15 and are worried. She is a passionate campaigner for social justice, climate justice and trans rights. She has supported so many of us in our struggles for fair pay, social housing, action on poverty and stopping climate breakdown."

Amy is described as white, around 5ft 7ins tall, with long blonde hair and blue eyes. Enquiries have been carried out and officers know that Amy is known to travel extensively around Scotland and is a keen hillwalker.

She has links to the Edinburgh and Argyll and Bute areas but is not believed to have access to a vehicle.

Inspector Alan Ferris said: “It’s out of character for Amy not to be in touch with her family and friends. We just want to know she is safe and well. Her family is very worried.

“If anyone has seen Amy or has any information or knowledge as to her whereabouts, please contact police as a matter of urgency”.

Anyone with information is asked to call Police Scotland via 101 and quote incident number 2790 of April 4, 2023.
