Villagers living near farmland where 60 homes could be built have said the planned houses are a 'step too far'.
On March 9, a decision will be made by Broxtowe Borough Council's planning committee on whether the homes can be built on Hulks Farm off Coventry Lane in Bramcote.
Local people said the transformation of the farmland into housing was too much for the area.
Will Woods, 31, who lives in Bramcote and works in the aerospace industry, said: "I think that it might be a step too far.
"A lot of green land is being lost, you've got the golf club as well that they were planning to build on.
"It's kind of out of the way, I think it would make more sense if it was linked to anywhere else.
"You've got the loss of green space but also the strain on local services in the area. It's not just these 60 it's all the other ones that are planned."
The land where the 60 homes are planned borders a site next to Bramcote Crematorium where outline planning permission has recently been granted for almost 200 homes.
Such planning permission means the development can go ahead in principle but that further plans must be submitted typically to do with the access arrangements to the site and appearance of the houses.
Other people in Bramcote spoke of their concerns over the 60 homes proposed for the farmland.
Simon Pitts, 59, who works in healthcare and went to school in the area, said: "I'm totally against it.
"It has always been a nice place to walk the dogs or use as a green space to spend some time in.
"It would be a real shame for everyone, my parents live here so I come often still and I would oppose these plans."
A Bramcote resident, who asked not to be named, added: "We have to have housing but it is all just getting squeezed in.
"There's an awful lot of development for a rural area, I'm not sure it will be able to cope.
"It will have a real affect on the local community, we are losing lots of green space.
"As well as there not being the infrastructure for it - it is already a problem to get into town."
Planning officers have recommended approval.
But councillors will vote on the plans for 60 homes at the Broxtowe Borough Council planning committee on March 9.
In a planning document, a planning officer said: "The benefits of the proposal are that it would provide 60 dwellings including affordable dwellings, short term jobs created from the construction of the development and financial contributions.
"Whilst there are still some reservations over some elements of the ecological aspects of the development and additional information is required for noise mitigation, both of these issues can be suitably addressed via condition."
The plans for the 60 homes were submitted on behalf of Keepmoat Homes.
