Concern over 'disintegrating' Nottingham potholes that reveal old cobblestones

Residents have been left worried about damage to cars after "disintegrating" tarmac roads revealed old cobblestone potholes.

Tarmac has come away in various parts throughout The Meadows suburb in Nottingham and noticeably on Wilford Crescent West.

The damage has revealed the old road of cobblestones underneath, with potholes dotted along the busy stretch of the housing estate where many leave their cars parked.

The city council says it has been made aware of the issues and has scheduled repairs to take place.

Resident Jeff Martin, 65, who lives nearby said: "It's quite bad and the issue is it will get worse if not addressed.

"You can see the old stone underneath which is quite remarkable. It looks like it needs a whole resurface job.

"Loads of cars use the road every day so it will be taking some serious wear and tear."

Kaye Matthews, a mum of two of the Meadows, 38, added: "It's been a problem for a few months now I'd say.

"It just needs some investment, especially with freak weather, it will get worse.

"The road tarmac has just disintegrated so it makes it a bit of a mess and there's a lot of use on the road to access homes on Glapton Road.

"You just worry about the damage it might do to your car."

A Nottingham City Council spokesperson said: “We picked up these issues on Wilford Crescent West during a recent inspection and have scheduled repairs to take place by the end of this week.”

The city council says it carries out regular highway safety inspections, and residents can also report problems with roads or pavements online at https://www.nottinghamcity.gov.uk/roadproblems
