Concern over Cristiano Ronaldo growing at Juventus as Man Utd transfer rumours continue

Juventus are believed to be growing concerned about the poor form and frustrated body language of Cristiano Ronaldo as speculation continues to surround his future.

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner has largely had another impressive season, scoring 25 goals in Serie A in 29 appearances.

But he has failed to find the back of the net in his last three appearances, which is his longest period without scoring since moving to Italy, and he has often not looked particularly happy on the pitch in that time.

Ronaldo has a contract at Juve which does not expire until next summer, but there have been rumours that he could look to cut short his stay in Turin and leave at the end of this season, with a sensational return to either Manchester United or Real Madrid among the possible destinations.

And a number of Italian media outlets criticised the player following Juve's 1-1 draw with Fiorentina on Sunday, which left them down in fourth place and dangerously close to falling out of the Champions League qualification spots.

Corriere della Sera wrote: "The team is disconnected, without a game plan, without a soul, with Cristiano looking like a ghost on the field, wandering, almost disinterested in the match."

And there are also worries that Juve will not be able to afford his mammoth wages for another year if they fail to qualify for the Champions League.

Tuttosport added: "If Juve do not qualify for the Champions League, they will not be able to extend Ronaldo's stay, and will probably allow him to try a new challenge in Manchester or Paris."

Nevertheless, Juve manager Andrea Pirlo defended Ronaldo's display after the Fiorentina draw, and clearly wants the star to stay for another season.

“I don’t think Ronaldo did badly," he said. "He had a few chances and overall was not bad.

"It was the team that should have attacked the space more, and we did see some of that in the second half, as Fiorentina had a high line.”
