Concern on Nottingham road where there is 'danger all the time'

Neighbours living on a "dangerous" road have spoken of their concerns of it being an "accident waiting to happen." Edwards Lane, Sherwood, has had a history of accidents and "near misses" in the past, residents say.

Crash Map, a website that highlights road accidents in particular areas using Department for Transport data, shows there have been more than five crashes in the last three years. The roundabout, in particular, has been highlighted as a dangerous part of the road, and one where a "serious" crash took place back in 2017.

One resident stated that cars can be heard "zooming" past throughout the day. Kathy Gotbury, 71, said: "There's just danger all the time for walkers and drivers. You hear the cars zooming past - it worries me and I think it worries quite a lot of the residents.

"I can't tell you the amount of near misses I see every single week. Drivers are reckless, of course that's a huge problem, but measures need to be in place to make people stop and reconsider how they are driving.

"There have been incidents on the road for years and years and it shows no signs of stopping really. I remember a really bad one a few years ago.

James Heffernan, 66, said: "I'm not sure what ended up happening but there were police everywhere. Oh, there's definitely a problem, a big problem. Yes, near misses happen a lot because of how fast people are driving around corners and things like that, I don't know what the rush is!

"How people can be so reckless I just don't know. You've got to assume it's a problem that is being ignored though as nothing is really done about it.

"Some people don't even feel safe crossing the street - how bad is that? You shouldn't have to be worrying all the time that an accident might happen but that's the reality unfortunately.

"An accident could happen at any time."

Another man, who wishes to remain anonymous, said: "I've lived here a while and to be honest I think it's got a bit better. It really was bad not long ago and the speeding cars were an issue.

"And at that time I think a lot of people were a bit fearful if I'm honest because it was as if there were incidents happening so much, it was a plague. Recently I think there have been some improvements and I've not seen as many issues.

"Maybe there are more warning signs I don't know. Hopefully it stays that way."

Nottingham City Council and Nottinghamshire Police were approached for comment.
