Concern grows for missing County Durham man Robin Purvis whose car was found abandoned

Police are continuing their search for a missing man whose car was found abandoned near the Moors.

North Yorkshire Police said they are growing "increasingly concerned" for Robin Purvis, 54, who went missing from the Durham area.

He was last in touch with his family on Wednesday, June 3 and is believed to have been in Kettleness, north of Whitby, sometime between June 4 and June 5.

Officers found his car, a blue 63-reg Citroen C3, parked at Kettleness Carpark, near Goldsborough footpath on the evening of Friday, June 5.

Robin is described as white European, around 5ft 11ins tall, with a bald head.

Last week, a helicopter was deployed in the search Robin and North Yorkshire Police were joined by the Cleveland Mountain Rescue team in their search.

A spokesperson for the force said: "Officers are growing increasingly concerned for Robin’s welfare and are appealing to the public for information as to his whereabouts.

"If you think you might have seen Robin, or have any information about his current whereabouts, please contact North Yorkshire Police on 101 and pass information to the Force Control Room.

"If you have an immediate sighting of him, please call 999."
