Concern growing for 'missing' 75-year-old homeless man found in Liverpool doorway

Concern is growing for a 75-year-old homeless man said to have gone missing after being taken off the streets of Liverpool.

The man, named Bob, was found in a city centre doorway on Thursday by well-known former homeless man Brian Phillips .

Generous Brian invited him to stay at his flat, telling the ECHO he did so because: "It's just what you do."

He said: "He was freezing, sleeping in a doorway. We were taking food around and, I know Bob anyway, so I took him back to mine to stay for the night."

Brian knew Bob after previously meeting him through the Cotton Street homeless project .

After taking him in, Brian learned Bob had been missing from a supported accommodation complex in Chester.

But when Bob was told an outreach worker was coming to collect him, he left.

He was last seen getting on an X1 bus service to Chester near the Met Quarter at around 11am on Friday.

Carl Sumner, a volunteer with the Cotton Street Project and Old Hall Street Kitchen, told the ECHO that Bob claimed he was returning to his accommodation - but he has not been seen since.

Now concern is growing for the pensioner, whose disappearance has sparked appeals in both Liverpool and Chester.

While Brian and Carl are leading search efforts on Merseyside, people are also looking for him in Cheshire, with an appeal for information by a homeless support group in Chester gathering momentum.

Anyone who has seen Bob can contact the Cotton Street Project on Facebook, or Cheshire Police, who are believed to have been informed about his disappearance on 101.
