Concern growing for 'chatty' man missing for over a week

Concern is growing for a 'chatty' man missing from his West Kirby home since Sunday, August 8.

Piero Bonifazi, 69, was last seen in his room by his landlord, Wendy Connor, that Saturday. Wendy, who has rented a room to Piero for three years, said he hasn't responded to calls and texts from her or his friends since.

Wendy went out on Sunday morning when Piero's black electric bike was still there. She said that when she returned, his bike was gone but no clothes or toothbrush appeared to have been taken.

Piero, a 5' 8" Italian man with sparse grey-white hair who sells the Big Issue outside Morrisons in West Kirby, hasn't been seen since.

Wendy told the ECHO : "I'm very sad. I'd like him to be found. It's just a very anxious time, isn't it? I just feel frustrated really, because I feel like we're getting nowhere."

Piero's friend of nine years, Chris Hazlehurst, 74, described him as a gentle and caring man who always has a story to tell.

Speaking of her concern for Piero, Chris told the ECHO : "I'm feeling quite unnerved by it, because he has done this sort of thing before. But normally he will respond to me within a few days."

Wendy said the same, telling the ECHO that Piero, originally from Rome, usually lets her know he's leaving and when he'll be back.

She and Piero's friends know little about his background. Chris said he once owned a restaurant in London where he was married with a son several decades ago, while Wendy said he doesn't have a bank account.

Merseyside Police confirmed to the ECHO that Piero has been reported missing.
