Concern for welfare incident closes main road in Yate

A concern for welfare incident closed a main road in Yate.

Avon and Somerset Police said they were called at about 7am today after a male was seen to be on the wrong side of railings on a bridge in Goose Green Way.

That led to the road, close to a roundabout for Tesco and the junction with the B4060, being closed for a period while police dealt with the situation.

A spokesman for the force said the road had since reopened and the male had been taken to hospital for his own safety.

Goose Green Way is a main road on the outskirts of Yate, which takes traffic in and out of the nearby town centre.

It was the second concern for welfare incident that Avon and Somerset Police had dealt with so far this morning.

They rescued a woman in her 20s who they said had jumped into the water at Narrow Quay in Bristol city centre at 4.20am.

After officers helped get her out of the water, she was taken to Southmead Hospital in the city.
