Concern for safety of man seen at entrance to Birkenhead tunnel

A man in his 40s has been detained under the Mental Health Act after an incident which led to the closure of Queensway Tunnel.

The tunnel was closed, and at 6.40am today the man was detained under the Mental Health Act and taken to hospital.

The tunnel has now re-opened.

Last night police tweeted a message warning drivers to avoid the area.
