Concern for Cobbo as Broncos re-sign star backs

Adam Reynolds is set to finish his NRL career at Brisbane after signing a one-year deal to play on in 2026.

It comes as the Broncos also tie former NSW outside back Kotoni Staggs to a new three-year deal that spells questions as to the future of Selwyn Cobbo.

Currently playing reserve grade on an estimated $625,000 per season, Cobbo now appears at risk of being squeezed out when his contract expires at the end of this season.

Cobbo's fitness has come under fire in Michael Maguire's first season as coach, with Gehamat Shibasaki, Jesse Arthars and Deine Mariner providing the club with plenty of depth in the backs.

A one-time State of Origin representative in 2022, Staggs will turn 30 just after the final season of his new deal.

"Kotoni began his journey at the Broncos as a young teenager and it's been a pleasure to watch him grow into the leader he is today," said Broncos chief executive Dave Donaghy.

Premiership-winning half Reynolds had been linked with a move to Wests Tigers but will now remain in Brisbane until the end of next year, by which time he will be 36.

Reynolds helped the Broncos reach the 2023 grand final on arrival from South Sydney a year earlier and brought up his 300-game milestone earlier this season.

"Reyno has led from the front since he joined in 2022, and I'm delighted that he'll continue on in 2026," said Donaghy.

Brisbane have also tied 21-year-old back-up hooker Blake Mozer to a new two-year deal.

Highly-rated Mozer has been in the club's system since he was 13 and will remain at Red Hill through 2027.

Jack Gosiewski, Kobe Hetherington and Corey Jensen are among Broncos players who remain unsigned beyond 2025.
