Conan Murie: Fundraiser for 'kind and selfless' 18-yr-old raises thousands overnight

A fundraiser has been launched after the tragic death of Edinburgh teenager Conan Murie.

In the days after his death, two friends of the 18-year-old launched a fundraiser in the hope of creating a memorial bench.

The gifted young footballer was found on Arthur's Seat on January 4, with Police Scotland confirming there are no suspicious circumstances around the death.

Since the news, tributes have flooded in from friends and family, who have described Conan as "nothing less than a gentleman".

Now, two of his friends, Jamie Burns and Ciaran Vaughan, will run a marathon to help spread awareness of mental health and raise funds for a memorial.

Taking on the run on February 14, the two young men have already raised an astonishing £21,000 of their £25,0000 target, with any additional funds to be donated to the Joshua Nolan Foundation.

Speaking on their fundraising page, Jamie said:

"Ciaran and I were very good friends with Conan. We will be raising the money by running a marathon together on the 14th of February 2021.

"We want to raise enough money to buy memorial bench with a plaque in his memory, All of the money left over after buying the bench will be donated to the Joshua Nolan Foundation who are a mental health awareness charity based in Edinburgh.

"They give individuals who are suffering from mental health problems and suicidal thoughts the counselling they need."
