Completion of Allan Saint-Maximin deal now in the hands of Lee Charnley after winger agrees personal terms

Newcastle United managing director Lee Charnley is hoping to close in on the signing Allan Saint-Maximin from Nice.

The Toon's transfer chief has netted just one deal this summer after landing £40million Joelinton from Hoffenheim after a long chase.

Head coach Steve Bruce was quick to point out that United had lost six players this summer but even if Saint-Maximin comes through the door this weekend as expected, United require a right-back and a striker - plus general squad cover.

Despite seeing a record-breaking arrival at St James' Park, many fans feels this has still be a disappointing summer after the exit of Rafa Benitez and hopes of a takeover extinguished recently.

Saint-Maximin has agreed personal terms on a six-year deal with an €18million fee agreed between Nice and Newcastle after previous bids were knocked back.

Bruce confirmed Newcastle's interest last week when he said: "It’s somebody we have identified and we will see what happens."
