'Completely unacceptable': Why easyJet flight was diverted from Bristol Airport to Birmingham

Airline easyJet was accused of "completely unacceptable" customer service as one of its flights was diverted from Bristol Airport.

Twitter user @plantylu complained of a lack of communication after her brother's 7.15pm flight from Newcastle to Bristol landed in Birmingham yesterday (January 30).

The flight was diverted due to low visibility and high winds across the UK, a Bristol Airport spokeswoman said.

The passenger's sister tweeted at 9.17pm: "Hi @easyJet our little brother is on a flight that has just been diverted from landing in Bristol which has now gone to Birmingham - there is absolutely no one here to answer our questions.

"We are really worried about him - pls can someone contact us immediately.

"He doesn’t have a phone with him and Birmingham Airport have told us they have no way of contacting him. Apparently they’re just sat on the tarmac. This is completely unacceptable."

She added at 9.35pm: "There hasn't been an update on the app / tracker for 30 mins - the worst customer service I’ve ever known.

"He’s literally stuck onboard with no way of speaking to us and in the meantime our parking is extortionate with no ways of knowing how long we’ll be here."

An easyJet spokeswoman confirmed the flight was diverted because of high winds at Bristol "gusting outside the limits of the aircraft in low visibility".

She said: "We did everything possible to minimise the impact of the disruption for our customers and provided coaches to transfer passengers from Birmingham to Bristol.

“The safety and wellbeing of our customers and crew is our highest priority.

“Whilst this was outside of our control, we would like to apologise to customers for any inconvenience experienced as a result of the weather.”
