'Completely drained...': Adam Zampa reveals reasons for opting out of IPL 2024

NEW DELHI: Australia's renowned spinner, Adam Zampa, who withdrew from the ongoing Indian Premier League 2024 season, cited various compelling reasons for the decision. His reasons include exhaustion from previous commitments and a focus on personal well-being.

Zampa, instrumental in Australia's victorious World Cup 2023 campaign, revealed that his taxing schedule had left him feeling "completely drained" after the conclusion of the tournament, influencing his decision to forego participation in the IPL.

"I'm completely drained from 2023," Zampa stated, emphasizing the physical and mental toll of continuous cricketing endeavors.

Despite initial intentions to join the Rajasthan Royals for IPL 2024, Zampa acknowledged his inability to offer his best to the team, prioritizing readiness for the upcoming World Cup.

"I just couldn't really offer the Rajasthan Royals the best version of myself, and looking forward to the World Cup, that's what's more important to me," Zampa asserted.

Reflecting on his previous IPL stint in 2023 with RR, where he secured eight wickets in six matches, Zampa expressed apprehensions about potential playing time amidst stiff competition from established spinners like Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravichandran Ashwin.

"I probably need to put my body and my mental health first," he affirmed, recognizing the importance of rest and recuperation.

Personal considerations also weighed heavily on Zampa's decision, with family commitments and uncertainty about his IPL role influencing his choice.

"It's not easy to spend nine weeks in India in my situation where I'm fighting for my spot in the team as well," Zampa elaborated, underscoring the challenges posed by extended separations from his young family.

Despite potential concerns about public perception, Zampa remained resolute in his decision, prioritizing his health and family over immediate cricketing commitments.

"Once I made that decision, I knew it was the right one," he remarked, highlighting the importance of staying true to personal values amidst external pressures.
